Observation sampling and quantisation for continuous-time estimators

چکیده
A Bayesian estimation problem is considered, in which the observation is a vector-valued, continuous-time stochastic process of the ‘signal-plus-white-noise’ variety and approximations based on sampling and quantisation of this process are developed. The problem includes continuous-time nonlinear lters, interpolators and extrapolators as special cases. The e ect of quantisation is characterised by means of a central limit theorem, which shows that the resulting loss of information is asymptotically equivalent to a modest reduction in signal-to-noise ratio – even when the quantisation is quite coarse. Optimal thresholds are derived that minimise this loss for a given degree of quantisation. The approximations based on quantised samples are shown to be signi cantly simpler than those based on raw samples, and this, in particular, allows the use of higher sampling rates, reducing approximation errors and increasing estimator currency. c © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Estimation of Density using Plotless Density Estimator Criteria in Arasbaran Forest
Sampling methods have a theoretical basis and should be operational in different forests; therefore selecting an appropriate sampling method is effective for accurate estimation of forest characteristics. The purpose of this study was to estimate the stand density (number per hectare) in Arasbaran forest using a variety of the plotless density estimators of the nearest neighbors sampling me...
متن کاملMCMC methods for restoration of quantised time series
In digital systems, the amplitude of a time series is quantised with finite resolution. This is a nonlinear process which introduces distortion. We develop a Bayesian, model-based approach to reducing the quantisation distortion when moving a time series, such as an audio signal, to a higher resolution medium. The signal is modelled as a discrete-time, continuous-valued autoregressive (AR) proc...
متن کاملSome Improvment in the Estimation of Population Mean in Cluster Sampling
Gupta and Shabbir (2008) have suggested an alternative form of ratio-type estimator for estimating the population mean. In this paper, we introduced new estimators by mixing two, stratified and cluster sampling method. Then we improved these estimators by using auxiliary variables and introducing new estimators. For sampling in infinite populations with a high geographic dispersion, the populat...
متن کاملParametric versus Nonparametric Estimation of Diffusion Processes — A Monte Carlo Comparison
In this paper, a Monte Carlo simulation is performed to investigate the finite sample properties of various estimators, based on discretely sampled observations, of the continuous-time Itô diffusion process. The simulation study aims to compare the performance of the nonparametric estimators proposed in Jiang and Knight (1996) with common parametric estimators based on those diffusion processes...
متن کاملBATHTUB HAZARD RATE DISTRIBUTIONS AND FUZZY LIFE TIMES
The development of life time analysis started back in the $20^{textit{th}}$ century and since then comprehensive developments have been made to model life time data efficiently. Recent development in measurements shows that all continuous measurements can not be measured as precise numbers but they are more or less fuzzy. Life time is also a continuous phenomenon, and has already been shown tha...
